Safety Ties Construction Firms Together

Greenville, SC – Fluor and other CII members from around the globe are gearing up for the third annual Safety Week, a construction industry-wide education and awareness event May 2 to 6. Safety Week 2016’s theme – Safety Ties – uses a logo that is reminiscent of interwoven laces to symbolize the strength of the thousands of workers who, when working together, help make safety a part of every task.

Three years ago, the Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) and the Incident & Injury Free (IIF) Executive Forum, both U.S.-based groups of company leaders including Fluor, started Safety Week. It is an opportunity for construction companies – even competitors – to work together and rally around a common and vitally important cause. During the week, companies have the opportunity to thank employees for their commitment to safety and to educate, inspire, and share best practices. The event also aligns with the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) National Safety Stand-Down focusing on fall prevention on the job.

“Fluor relies on our nearly 60,000 employees to make safety the core of every job, building a community dedicated to safety that extends around the world and beyond the boundaries of the company to positively impact the entire industry,” said Herb Morgan, senior vice president at Fluor and former Safety Week co-chairman. “We are proud to be a part of Safety Week 2016.”

This year also marks Fluor's 12th annual HSE Week celebration, which is held in conjunction with Safety Week. The theme for HSE Week 2016 is I’m Safe; Are You? and it focuses on personal accountability and what each employee can do to drive HSE. Weekly events will be held at more than 120 Fluor projects and offices around the world to highlight the three key attributes of a strong HSE culture: individual awareness, personal engagement, and appropriate behavior. Fluor believes that by focusing on these drivers, every employee can help strengthen the company’s HSE culture today and positively influence its results tomorrow.

“Fluor designs and builds some of the most challenging projects in the world. We serve global customers in a variety of industries, across cultures, and in diverse, often remote environments. Each project may be unique, but our No. 1 commitment always remains the same: the safety of our people and the environment,” Morgan said. “The construction industry overall is stronger – and safer – when we join together and are committed to a safe workplace.”
